In this study, we analyse the data from 561,379 hospitalised COVID-19 patients in Germany from January 2020 to December 2021. Findings include a 24.54% ICU admission rate, with overall hospital mortality at 16.69% and ICU mortality at 33.36%. The study observed mortality peaks in April 2020, January 2021, and late 2021, indicating fluctuations in patient outcomes throughout the pandemic and provides vital insights into the characteristics and outcomes of COVID-19 patients in Germany, revealing a lower mortality rate compared to some other studies.

In this groundbreaking study, we worked in a multidisciplinary team to develop a short-term predictor to assess the severity of COVID-19 in patients. This predictor, derived from a longitudinal multi-omics study, is designed for practical application in Intensive Care Units. It represents a step forward in managing COVID-19, providing healthcare professionals with a valuable tool for early intervention and resource allocation in treating this unpredictable and often severe disease.
