The PATTERN Project

Pioneering Precision in Perioperative Care

At the Data Science Group Frankfurt, we are embarking on an ambitious journey with the PATTERN project, where our goal is to redefine perioperative safety and enhance patient care through the analysis of medical records. PATTERN—Perioperative Safety Optimization via Medical Record Analysis—stands for our commitment to utilising our multidisciplinary expertise to achieve advances in medical treatment.

Anaesthesia is a crucial component of surgical procedures. Despite careful monitoring, perioperative complications threaten the health and quality of life of patients after surgery and contribute to rising healthcare costs. PATTERN therefore uses machine learning algorithms to analyse the complex interplay of intraoperative factors and vital signs and identify patterns that may indicate complications. By recognising the subtle nuances between “normal” and “abnormal” vital sign patterns, we aim to create a sophisticated early warning system that could significantly improve patient safety. Our approach is not limited to analysing events in the past. We look to the future and use the insights gained from retrospective data to inform and train algorithms that are able to intervene proactively. This predictive action has the potential to improve patient outcomes by enabling proactive rather than reactive medical care.

The PATTERN project is more than a scientific endeavour; it is a value proposition that aims to improve patient safety, increase public trust and reduce the burden on medical staff during surgery. By improving the precision of perioperative care, we are setting new standards for patient treatment protocols and safety measures. Keep up to date with the progress of the PATTERN project and join us as we break new ground in healthcare. Follow us to be part of this exciting journey where every discovery brings us closer to a world where surgery is safer, recovery is faster and patient wellbeing is paramount.
