Doctoral Scholarships at Data Science Group Frankfurt

Advancing Medical Frontiers

The Data Science Group Frankfurt offers doctoral scholarships (MD, PhD) for innovative projects that demonstrate our commitment to pioneering research with tangible impact on patient care and the broader medical community.

We stand at the intersection of cutting-edge research and the practical realities of the German and European healthcare systems. Our PhD projects are multidisciplinary in nature to provide candidates with insights into the numerous and intertwined aspects of real-world medicine, engineering, data science, IT, economics and healthcare management. By nurturing a diverse range of talents and fostering a holistic understanding of healthcare’s complexity, we prepare our doctoral candidates to become the change-makers of tomorrow’s medical and scientific landscapes.

For his M.D. Hans Magnus Haveraaen became a leader in the development of the Frankfurt Intubation Device (FID), a stakeholder-driven innovation designed to improve the efficacy of first-time intubations and provide early protection against aspiration, which is particularly critical in emergency intubations. The FID is designed to combine the high success rate of a bougie during initial intubation attempts with robust aspiration protection, a feature often only found in more complex devices. Our goal is to simplify the process of endotracheal intubation, especially for less experienced clinicians, and thus significantly improve patient safety. To validate the effectiveness of the FID, Hans Magnus is conducting a randomised controlled crossover study to compare its performance with conventional intubation techniques.

In parallel, Thomas Jasny’s scientific work focuses on the use of SAS (Statistical Analysis System) tools for retrospective statistical analysis. His recent publications highlight the potential of detailed data studies to inform and improve patient outcomes. Thomas’s work includes a comprehensive analysis of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) use in resuscitated drowning patients, a nationwide study of anaemia, red blood cell transfusions and blood product administration in obstetrics, and a thorough examination of ECMO patient survival rates. These studies provide important insights and pave the way for improved medical protocols and interventions.

We invite you to follow our journey as we continue to break new ground in medical technology and data science. If you feel inspired by the prospect of contributing to critical healthcare research, we encourage you to apply and join our team!
