Patrick Booms PhD

Clinic Manager, Project Controller and Senior Research Associate

Patrick is Data Science Group Frankfurt’s resident Project Controller (with over 200 national and international research projects) and Senior Research Associate (with 47 papers published in internationally renowned journals such as Circulation, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, and American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine). He has extensive experience in molecular-, regenerative-, biomedical- and clinical research having worked at internationally renowned research institutes in the USA, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands as well as in rural Malaŵi. Since 2018 he works at the Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine & Pain Therapy, University Hospital Frankfurt Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main, Germany and joined the DSG in 2021.

At the DSG, he appreciates the international interdisciplinary research team approach to research. His research interests include; the continuous improvement of hospital (peri-operative and peri-intensive care) processes, improving patient safety (e.g., patient blood management, ARDS, sepsis and delirium), improving existing treatments, artificial intelligence, clinical decision support systems, measuring quality through indicators, integrated care, health services research, molecular biology, molecular medicine, clinical science, science technology, databases, computational analysis, data science, data visualisation and clinic management.

For his doctoral thesis (2001), he worked on Mutation analysis of the fibrillin-1 gene and functional investigation of fibrillin-1 at the Robinson Lab at the Department of Paediatrics and the Institute of Medical Genetics, Charité Medical University Berlin, Humboldt University Berlin, Germany. He studied Health Sciences (BSc, 1987) and Biomedical Sciences (MSc, 1993) at Leiden University, the Netherlands.
